The beautiful sand and stone colors evoke scenes of ancient deserts and even more ancient seas. The beads are glass, colored pearl, and magnesite, in deep shades of copper and tan with a hint of blue in the bicolor rustic glass, all strung on waxed linen. Magnesite is a versatile and beautiful mineral, cousin to turquoise and azurite. Its shades and patterns are astonishingly varied and alluring. In this piece the stones have a distinct web or net-like pattern so reminiscent of the desert floor. The design of the necklace is intentionally simple using materials that the ancients would have known: stone, pearl, and glass.
