Pouches for Many
Purposes
Over the years I have made quite a few styles of bags and pouches from
simple card pouches to large felt appliqué double-fringed 12- x 6-inch
“medicine woman bags.” Smaller rectangular and tapered pouches are standard
items. Most of my pouches have fringes and straps or ties for carrying them.
Recently I have done several large, fringed, felt-lined buckskin drawstring
bags and pouches for a special order. Most of the larger pieces that I make
are custom design work. Depending on the complexity of the design and the
materials used, most large custom pieces begin at about $50, plus shipping.
Like all of the art in my collections, these pieces are inspired by the
majesty of the nature and the inherent beauty of planet Earth. I use both
traditional and contemporary materials in my designs, but each piece is
completely handcrafted. Each item is unique with its own power and subtle
energy.
What do people use
these bags for? Well, as far as I know, as small purses, for divination
cards, rune stones, crystals, jewelry, and even cell phones. If you have a
special item that needs a secure and beautiful pouch for a home you might
find just what you are looking for here on these pages.
White Buffalo/Blue Star Pouch
White Buffalo
waits for the new day that will dawn soon. The ancestors are returning
with knowledge and wisdom we no longer remember. The Blue Star
signals change.
This amulet or
medicine pouch is made from very soft eggshell-white buckskin
leather and fully lined with thick ocean-blue felt to make it more
protective of any objects carried within. The bag is about 5 inches
long and
features a 3-inch hand-cut fringe, a pale sky-blue seed-bead edging,
and a chevron-bead button closure. The tapered design gives a top
opening of 3 inches and a bottom width of 3.5 inches. The bag has
10-inch leather ties that can attach to a belt, or it can be worn as
a necklace. The pouch is further ornamented with four long leather
dangles finished with blue chevron beads, brass
beads, and white seashells. The heart of the piece is a blue felt
appliquéd “Guiding Star” set with an exquisitely detailed, beautiful
Peruvian ceramic white buffalo face.
The White
Buffalo is particularly sacred to the Lakota, but her powerful image
has been adopted by many people around the world as a symbol of
rebirth, the dawn of a new era, and the spiritual force in nature.
She is a wise and
strong guardian for those seeking a deeper relationship with our
Mother Earth.

Red Star Pouch
The Solstices
and Equinoxes move in their eternal cycle. The Evening Star becomes
Morning Star, and the Wheel of the Year turns, marking the cycles of
time.
This amulet
bag or medicine pouch is made from a double layer of gold-colored
vintage
wool felt to make it more protective of any objects carried within.
The bag is about 5 inches long and features a 6-inch beaded yarn
fringe, a pale sky-blue seed-bead edging, and a chevron-bead button
closure. The tapered design gives a top opening of 3 inches and a
bottom width of 4 inches. The bag has 18-inch
braided ties that can attach to a belt, be carried as a small purse,
or it can be worn as a necklace. The pouch is further ornamented
with natural bamboo, red and turquoise glass and copper beads on the
8 gold yarn fringes. The heart of the piece is a red felt appliqué
“Guiding Star” in a golden dawn or sunset sky. The star has 8 points
representing the spring and fall equinoxes, the summer and winter
solstices, and the days equidistant between them. The 8 fringes
represent the same. This piece is about seasonal cycles and our
abiding connection to them, and the peace and harmony that flows
from being in touch with the great cycles of time and space.

Wolf Medicine Wheel
Pouch
Wolf watches
from the center of the circle. She senses the power of the 4
directions and knows what elemental forces reside with each. She
knows where each of the 4 trails leads and when to follow each one.
This amulet or
medicine pouch is made from golden buckskin leather, fully lined
with thick deep-red felt to make it more protective of any objects
carried within. The pouch itself is about 5.5 inches long with an
additional 9-inch hand-cut and tied buckskin fringe that makes the
piece 14.5 inches overall. The pouch is edged with deep-red matching
seeds and closed with a brass bead. The tapered design gives a top
opening of 3 inches and a bottom width of 4 inches. The bag has
11-inch leather ties that can attach to a belt, be worn as a
necklace, or carried as a small purse. The pouch is further
ornamented with brass beads and a gray and dark-red appliqué
medicine wheel design. The heart of the piece is an exquisitely
detailed, beautiful Peruvian ceramic wolf’s head.
Wolf is a
seeker of knowledge and a guardian of those who teach others. She
has an uncanny awareness that allows her to avoid danger and
difficulty. Wolf is also the guardian of relationship, as she mates
for life and is deeply loyal to her pack family. She is a wise
teacher and trusted guide for those who have family responsibilities
and long-term relationships. Wolf understands their challenges and
their rewards and offers sure guidance and wise counsel to her
spirit kin.
